Tails and Tales! Summer Reading Club 2021
The Melrose Public Library offers a summer library program to the children
of our community to encourage them to read for pleasure during the summer and to retain their reading skills. This year’s theme is Tails and Tales!
To add to the fun and to create a sense of challenge that will keep kids reading, we use an online reading tracker: Beanstack. Children are encouraged to log their reading minutes, and complete fun activities to earn virtual badges. Paper logs are also available on request. New this year: link your account with friends for some friendly competition!Don’t forget to let the library know that you have registered – all participants are eligible for a summer fun kit, available from June 28th, while supplies last! Families can preregister, and then log reading minutes and activities between June 28th and August 13th.
Our community goal is to read 250,000 minutes. As the minutes are logged, the tiny tiger in the library lobby window will progress along the jungle vines – encourage your child to log their minutes and let’s see if we can get it to the top!
This challenge is recommended for ages preK to grade 5. Caregivers of babies and toddlers will enjoy our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge.
“Tails and Tales” is sponsored by your local library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Institute of Museum and Library Services with support from the National Women’s Hockey League team Boston Pride.
