Basket and Blanket Family Concert Series

The Melrose Public Library and the North Suburban Child and Family Resource Network are collaborating to bring a fantastic concert series this summer.  Pack your picnic basket, grab a blanket and enjoy a summer’s night with your neighbors.  All shows will be on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at either the Melrose Public Library Lawn or The Beebe Estate Lawn.  In case of rain, the show will be held at the First Congregational Church on West Foster St. (Food is not allowed in the church.)

Baby Steps 0-24 months
This program introduces babies ages 0-18 mos. and their caregivers to the library and the wonderful world of books! Join us for 30 minutes of finger plays, rhymes, lap songs, stories and fun. Baby Steps will be held on

With magic, merry mayhem, and magnificent props, the audience is taken on a trip throughout the mesozoic era.  How do we know dinosaurs were here?  What is a fossil?  How are they made?  This program is fun and informative for children in grades Kindergarten to 4th grade.  Register online beginning June 18th


Family Fun Night! Mondays July 9th – August 6th

Lego Tuesdays Ages 5-12

Crafternoon Wednesdays!  Grades K-3
This is a registered program for children in grades K-3.
Get your groove on Wednesday afternoons! Each session will begin with a story or two and then prepare to get messy as we discover our individual artistic talents.

All programs begin at 2:30 p.m. and are approximately 60 minutes long.

Ukulele Workshop with Julie Stepanek

ages 5 and older

Wednesday August 1st 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Want to try an instrument that is fun and easy to play?  Join Julie Stepanek as she shows the fundamentals of ukulele playing.  You’ll learn how to tune, strum and read chords.  After a short lesson, you’ll be able to play some fun and easy songs.  No experience necessary.  Bring your own ukulele or borrow one of Julies!

Snack Pack!  Book Group for 4th and 5th Graders

Calling all book lovers in the 4th & 5th grade! You are invited to participate in the library’s monthly book discussion group. The library provides the books and the snacks. Children entering 4th grade in the fall are invited to participate! We will discuss The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White  on Thursday, June 28th from 3-4 p.m. Other dates include Thursdays July 26th and August 16th from 3-4 p.m. The library will provide the snacks.  Books are available to checkout at the library. July and August titles TBD.

The Power of Poetry

 Thursday July 19th 6-7 p.m. ages 8-13

Poems are everywhere the days–in magazines, poetry collections verse novels, and even Broadway show lyrics.  Verse novelist and poetry editor Kip Wilson will share some popular examples with kids and then work with them to craft their own poems.

Summer Reading Ice Cream Celebration!

Participants in the library’s Summer Reading Club are invited to the delicious event outside on Wednesday, August 8th at 2 pm on the lawn of the library. In the event of rain, the ice cream social will be held on Thursday, August 9th at 2 pm.
