Family Fort Night

Join us for an exciting after-hours family event.  Build your own family fort among the stacks and tables of the children’s room and read together by flashlight.  Tablecloths and clips provided-or bring your own!  Snacks and a craft will also be available.

Basket and Blanket Family Concert Series

The Melrose Public Library and the North Suburban Child and Family Resource Network are collaborating to bring a fantastic concert series this summer.  Pack your picnic basket, grab a blanket and enjoy a summer’s night with your neighbors.  All shows will be on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at either the Melrose Public Library Lawn or The Beebe Estate Lawn.  In case of rain, the show will be held at the First Congregational Church on West Foster St. (Food is not allowed in the church.)

Baby Steps 0-24 months
This program introduces babies ages 0-18 mos. and their caregivers to the library and the wonderful world of books! Join us for 30 minutes of finger plays, rhymes, lap songs, stories and fun. Baby Steps will be held on
Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
Registration is not required.
Dates include:

Join us on Friday mornings for storytime fun, songs, & special performers. Registration not required.  Each class starts at 10:30 a.m.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Bring your favorite stuffed friend to the library for  bedtime stories and a craft…then tuck them in for a sleepover at the library.  Return the next morning at 10:30 to retrieve your friend and watch a slideshow highlighting the antics of the sleepover!

Lego Tuesdays Ages 5-12

Lego lovers unite!  Drop in on Tuesday mornings from 10:00-11:30 a.m. June 27th – July 25th and show off your amazing Lego talents.  Registration is not necessary.  Don’t forget to bring a friend!

 

 

 

Museum of Science Night Sky Planetarium.

Memorial Hall

Tuesday, August 1st.  Four sessions beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Explore the night sky, and learn how to find stars, planets, and other celestial objects from your own backyard. Inside the Boston Museum of Science’s portable planetarium you will discover which stars, planets, and other astronomical wonders are visible this evening.

*This program will be held at Memorial Hall on Main Street in Melrose.  Register online at melrosepubliclibrary.org beginning Monday, July 17th.

Bookworms!  Book Group for 2nd & 3rd Graders

Join our new bookgroup for 2nd & 3rd graders.  Come and discuss what you’ve been reading during the summer with other book lovers!

Egg Drop Competition All Ages

Wednesday, August 23rd 5:30-7:30 p.m.

We are changing the rules this year.  You (or your teammates) must build your egg holder using the materials from our Makerspace.

Eggs will be dropped at 7 p.m. from the top floor window of the library.

Crafternoon Wednesdays!  Grades K-3
This is a registered program for children in grades K-3.
Get your groove on Wednesday afternoons! Each session will begin with a story or two and then prepare to get messy as we discover our individual artistic talents.

All programs begin at 2:30 p.m. and are approximately 60 minutes long.

Register your child at melrosepubliclibrary.org on the day of each class beginning at 8 a.m.

Family Fun Thursday Nights!  Kindergarten and older

Thursdays July 6th – August 3rd
End your day at the library with your family and friends by enjoying a night at the library!  Each week explore and create with a different building material, strawbees, makedos, Legos, cardboard ….from our Makercart.  Registration not required.

Snack Pack!  Book Group for 4th and 5th Graders

Calling all book lovers in the 4th & 5th grade! You are invited to participate in the library’s monthly book discussion group. The library provides the books and the snacks. Children entering 4th grade in the fall are invited to participate! We will discuss The Capture by Kathryn Lasky on Thursday, June 29th from 3-4 p.m. Bring your lunch on  July 27th and August 17th and the library will provide the snacks. Books are available to checkout at the library. July and August titles TBD.

 

 

Maker Camp Grades 4-5

Thursdays July 6th – August 10th

Join us on Thursdays from 2:30 – 3:30 and create with our new Maker Space materials. Each week will be a different theme using exciting materials.  Create with Strawbees, Makedos, littleBits, Bristlebots, Legos and other materials.

Summer Reading Ice Cream Celebration!

Participants in the library’s Summer Reading Club are invited to the delicious event outside on Wednesday, August 16th at 2 pm on the lawn of the library. In the event of rain, the ice cream social will be held on Thursday, August 17th at 2 pm.
